8:30 a.m. – News You Can Use – Regulatory, Statutory and Court Updates for Businesses
Presenters: Adam Hamel and Jennifer Parent

This session will discuss recently issued guidance and rules by various federal and state agencies in the area of employment law, including, the EEOC, US DOL, FTC and the Massachusetts Department of Paid Family and Medical Leaves, as well as new state laws, such as the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act. The impact of these agency actions and state laws on the workplace will be reviewed to ensure your business remains in compliance.

9:45 a.m. – AI in the Workplace: What Are the Key Legal and Business Considerations?

Artificial intelligence is the next transformative technological innovation. Just like email and the Internet, AI is rapidly being integrated into business applications and will become a critical aspect of many different business operations. Companies that ignore this technology or lag behind risk being competitively disadvantaged. Additionally, adopting AI should be accomplished strategically, with a plan that ensures that the business implements the right AI applications in compliance with existing and forthcoming legal regulations. For example, AI has tremendous power to enhance certain human resources functions, but simultaneously presents risks if not properly configured and controlled. This presentation will address the legal and business principles emerging for the adoption and use of AI by businesses, including for human resources functions.

10:45 a.m. – Successful Management of Difficult Employees – Best Practices for Minimizing the Risk of Employment-Related Litigation
Presenters: Brian Garrett and Peg O’Brien

This session will discuss managing and documenting employee performance, discipline and termination without triggering a claim against the business for discrimination or harassment. In addition various fact patterns to help your company effectively manage employment law litigation risks will be covered as well as audience working group sessions. We will address best practices across a range of topics that impact day-to-day operations in the workplace and cause potential risk exposure for employers.
