John Weaver & Andrew Sutton Contributors for American Bar Association’s New AI Book

Attorneys John Weaver and Andrew Sutton are contributors for a new book from the American Bar Association entitled, “Artificial Intelligence: Legal Issues, Policy, and Practical Strategies.” John and Andrew collaborated on a chapter in the book which discusses lawyers’ professional ethical obligations when using AI.

This new book offers practical strategies, legal analysis and reflections on the influence that AI will have on the legal profession and the law. The topics include: a primer on key AI concepts; overarching legal issues, including AI governance and ethics; AI and law practice management; AI and the courts and how AI can be used to close the justice gap; intellectual property issues and the impact of AI on the workplace; AI risks, including cybersecurity, privacy, and national security; a European perspective on AI; and the long-term future of AI.

John Weaver is a director and chair of the firm’s Artificial Intelligence Practice Group and a member of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice Group. He is a nationally recognized voice in the nascent field of artificial intelligence law, advising a wide range of companies – from startups to international corporations. His practice includes conducting risk assessments of AI systems, advising clients concerning AI policies and best practices, and counseling clients regarding emerging legal and practical issues in AI. John also serves as the vice chair of the steering committee for the American Bar Association’s Artificial Intelligence & Robotics National Institute. He is the author of Robots Are People Too: How Siri, Google Car, and Artificial Intelligence Will Force Us to Change Our Laws, a contributing writer at Slate focusing on legal issues implicated by AI and autonomous devices, and a columnist for and member of the board of editors of The Journal of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & Law.
