David is recognized as a leading authority on student and campus safety, behavioral risk management and crisis response for independent and boarding schools
McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton Professional Association is pleased to announce that David Wolowitz will present two sessions for independent school business managers at the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest Conference October 22-24, 2014.
David will present a session on his exclusive Four Behavioral Guideposts to Behavioral Risk Management in Independent Schools, an approach he developed over many years of consulting with schools across the country, which successfully tailors a nationally recognized risk management approach to the multi-faceted independent school environment. He believes that effective risk management should not interfere with good teaching. His approach focuses on behaviors which promote the positive educational and developmental growth of students as the basis for safe adult–student interactions.
David will also present a breakout session on the importance of integrating a school’s risk management procedures and oversight into its summer programs.
David serves as Co-Chair of McLane’s Education Group. He has been a practicing attorney for 39 years. His background and experience in key legal areas, including employment, mental health, contract, criminal, fiduciary and tort law, enables him to provide practical and useful advice to his clients, which range from small independent day schools to some of the country’s most prestigious private boarding schools. He advises schools nationally and internationally on all aspects of legal issues, risk management and crisis response, working closely with heads of school, deans, financial officers, trustees, health providers and others. He trains school administrators, faculty and staff on safe practices to protect students in their care. He also trains his clients on how to operate safely, how to recognize and address signs of inappropriate behavior and how to respond to allegations of misconduct, past or present.
He has been qualified in multiple cases as an expert witness on the adequacy of independent school policies and procedures relating to the protection of students from harassment and misconduct.
David received his J.D. from the University of Michigan, his M.A. from Harvard University and his B.A. from Washington University.
